It takes a special kind of person to go into motivational speaking. For one thing, you have to be motivated, and that's a perfect descriptor for Timothy Lucero. Lucero, a 2003 graduate of Ruidoso High School, knows something about motivation, having been a member of the 2002 State Champion RHS football team, a highly competitive member of the Warrior wrestling team, and competing in football at the college level at New Mexico State University. But while Lucero had reached the pinnacle athletically, he realized there was something more than just physical attributes needed to achieve success. "I haven't pursued coaching or the physical realm, because that's only one aspect," Lucero said. "The mental aspect is just as important. I talk about the development of athletes' minds, because they're already physical specimens. "I talk about the discipline and integrity it takes to be successful." Lucero recently moved to Las Vegas, Nev., which is a mecca for business conventions - his bread and butter. While he makes most of his living speaking to businesses and organizations, he reserves a lot of time to bring the youth of the Southwest his inspirational message. "I feel a responsibility toward youth and speak for their programs as well," Lucero said. "I always want my generation to be well-represented." Lucero, 24, tells people how to live a life based on seven "pillars": Integrity, discipline, courage, passion, wisdom, perseverance and simplicity.
"Life is a roller coaster, and there are going to be ups and downs," Lucero said. "I try to make the low points as high as possible, to make things even."
While he hopes to benefit those who listen to him speak, Lucero said the decision to become a speaker full-time has been very good to him. "It's been very rewarding, and I've had so much fun with it," Lucero said. "I'm not trying to change the world, I'm just sharing my beliefs and showing that people can change their lives." http://www.timothylucero.com/
